Season 5 Episode 18

Jane the Virgin cast take a look back at moments they cherish with each other.

The times that were very emotional to the characters. They all look back at what being a family looks like to them and the way they are represented in the show.

There are very unique moments as well that occur, and some may be funnier than others. We cannot forget about the narrator. The narrator has made the show so enlightened over the years. There are many love stories to cherish.

Here is a quote by quote what the cast said. All credit of this post goes to Jane the Virgin cast and writers.

Thank you for an incredible five seasons, and I wish everyone the best of luck in the future.

Gina Rodriguez (Jane Gloriana Villanueva)

  1. When I was getting asked to audition for a pilot where I was the lead in a show called Jane the Virgin…I was thrown off. I was like, “They want me? They know who I am?”
  2. I knew it was exceptional from the moment I read the script. I knew it was something different from the moment I saw our pilot. Five years in, I still feel like I am living something that is still very different and new.
  3. We all can relate to this family, and we all can desire to have a family as strong as the Villanueva’s.
  4. It is so beautiful to be a part of a character who came into this journey with solid convictions of saving herself for marriage, of what that looks like, of what family structure looks like. If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans, and that’s like Jane’s thing. She believed that there was always order to that madness.
  5. With Raf and Jane, that’s family. With Michael and Jane, that was like a…like a Notebook love story
  6. They feel different to me. They feel like different sets of her heart.
  7. Five years ago, inclusivity was not as prevalent as it is now.
  8. Every moment has been magical. Every episode has something special.
  9. Synchronized swimming to playing, like, Jane the rapper. This has just been such a fun journey. It is an actor’s playground. So much to do, so much to play, ao many characters to be.
  10. When I think of Xo and Jane, I think about how much I hope I could be a mother Like Xo has been to Jane.Jane
  11. We always make a joke out of it, because Jane can go from extreme laughter to bawling the next second. When you have excellent writing, it is not as difficult of a challenge to play those beats. You fall right into it.
  12. Our love story…I think of Brett Dier and how much fun I had working with him. It is a good show. When I think about Michael and Jane, what a love story, man. What a beautiful love story.
  13. I would not be sitting here today if I let fear stop me. Jane would not be where she is if she let fear stop her.
  14. Lots of weddings. We do weddings well here.
  15. I think the heart of Jane the Virgin is joy. We just wanted to bring joy into people’s lives.
  16. The heart and dedication Xo put behind her cancer was not easy.
  17. They are my family. Jane is in love with her family. And she respects them. Uh, and so do I. I love them.
  18. The evolution of Petra and Jane becoming sisters has been remarkable. That love story has been, to me, such a strong relationship of friendship to project. To get to a space of just such transparency and love. The scene when Petra goes to Jane after her break up with JR, like–Women, sisterhood, friendship, and the way it could evolve into something beautiful.
  19. Rafael and Jane are complicated. They are, you know, the parents of Mateo. They have gone through this crazy journey of back and forth and push and pull… So it resembles what life is. What a real-life love story should be.
  20. I really hope fans feel full. And they feel the closure that we all do as we are creating this finale. Five years, a hundred episodes…Can I put into words what this journey means to me? I can tell you this: It is the greatest thing that ever happened to me. It was the…biggest gift anyone could have given me. Jennie making me her Jane changed my life.

Andrea Navedo (Xiomara “Xo” Gloriana Villanueva)

  1. When I read the logline, a 20-something-year-old virgin gets artificially inseminated by mistake, I am like, “Oh, my God. Please. Really?” But when I saw the finished pilot…
  2. I could completely relate to these characters, and it was a breath of fresh air to me. The Villanueva women represent a segment of the society in the United States that has not been reflected very often. Growing up, I really did not see myself on TV, my family on TV. And I really felt invisible. And it was really a blow to my self-esteem because I felt like I was not important. That is why a lot of fans resonate with the show because they feel like they are being seen Like they are included.
  3. So much creativity went into it on so many levels, from set design to costumes to just everything.
  4. Modern-day technology with texting and social media and all that, how that played into it. What a great world. So awesome.
  5. Jane the Virgin would not be Jane the Virgin without the narrator, and without Anthony Mendez.
  6. It has been so incredible. What an incredible journey Xiomara has had. In the beginning, the dynamics between Jane and Xiomara are more like Jane’s the mom, and Xiomara’s the daughter. To be a conscientious mom.
  7. So Gloria–She turned out to be a huge fan of the show. She said when that episode aired, and he dropped her name…she and Emilio were watching. He was like, “Gloria! Gloria, they said your name!” So, pretty cool. The name-dropping was so good. And then to back it up with the real star, like…
  8. Brooke Shields! Oh, my God! She is a legend.Xo
  9. Rosario Dawson. You are relentless.
  10. I did love the immigration storyline. It really puts a human face on this idea of immigration.
  11. I love that Xo and Ro always manage to find each other. They go through ups and downs, rocky moments in their relationship. There really truly is a love that cannot be broken. They are meant to be together.
  12. Jane the Virgin is about love. Loe for oneself, and love for others.
  13. My grandmother, being from Puerto Rico, she always had telenovelas on, and she was like, “Come on, ven aquÍ, Vamos a mirar la telenovela. Vamos, Vamos.”
  14. It was crucial to me to portray it in the most honest way that I could, without being melodramatic. She is dealing with cancer, and being stripped down of… that Latino beauty sexiness. Getting down to bare bones of being human. Oh, God, I so loved playing that whole cancer storyline. I was very proud to do it and pleased about the response that I received, so…
  15. What I love about Alba and Xiomara is their relationship grew. We have grown closer as a mother and daughter in understanding each other better. For example, my understanding of what my mom’s reasons were for being the way she was when we find out how she lost her virginity. And how she kept that a secret… How I felt judged by her all those years. And I think that helped create a bond between us. We were finally able to be honest about everything.
  16. The porch itself helps with the crying scenes. “We will have a porch scene…” Oh, okay. We will be crying in this one. If you try to set the same scene in the living room, let’s say, those tears are gonna be a little harder to achieve than when we sit on the porch of tears. That is just what it is for.
  17. I think the finale is an excellent culmination of wrapping up the entire five seasons. It was groundbreaking in my personal life. And really positively impacted my life.

Jennie Snyder Urman (Executive Producer)

  1. It is based on a Venezuelan telenovela. The whole story kind of came to me from this girl who loved telenovelas so much that all of a sudden, her life becomes one.
  2. The love story at the center of the show is Jane and her mom and her grandmother.
  3. All the joy and pain of life contained within this one family.
  4. Jane is this combination of her grandmother’s strict upbringing, and her mother’s more free-spirited attitude. She is romantic, and she is full of love.Executive Producer
  5. There is a storyteller, and things are not random. Everything is going to be leading up to a specific moment.
  6. Magical realism on our show is bringing inanimate objects to life and making the world around you alive in non-traditional ways. It is a rich tradition in Latin American storytelling. For us, it is when Jane is feeling a certain way and falls in love, her heart glows. Her stuffed animals might talk back to her.
  7. We are really embracing the telenovela roots, and exploiting all of the giant twists and turns that you can take.
  8. Jane has been really life-changing for me. These relationships I will hold in my heart forever.

Jaime Camil (Rogelio de la Vega)

  1. I read the script, and I thought it was so brilliantly written.
  2. The family is what drives the show, what, you know, what sets the tone…what people connect with.
  3. Rogelio has always been Team Jane, to be honest. So whatever makes Jane happy, Rogelio will support.
  4. I absolutely love the fact that they would have…That they have portrayed a Latino, strong, incredibly handsome man in a…in a normal way, you know, full of feelings.
  5. Groundbreaking. Everything Jennie decided to do.
  6. You need this, “Okay, and this is what’s happening.”
  7. That is a Rogelio thing Because Rogelio’s a natural name-dropper.
  8. Not just any “Bruno,” but Bruno Mars.
  9. All the fights with Brooke Shields are super funny.Rogelio
  10. Who can forget the Britney Spears feud?
  11. Working with Justina Machado was terrific.
  12. The fact that these great big, humongous celebrities like the show and they are willing to come and play with us for a little bit, it means the world.
  13. So you jump from funeral to weddings to happiness to tears.
  14. For Rogelio, Xiomara is the love of his life. Our romance is a massive and powerful and deep romance. Weddings are awesome. I loved my wedding. In the middle of a hurricane. I got to wear a little princess crown, Like, a makeshift dress inspired by the sea. You do not need a big wedding to profess your love. You need the feelings there, connected with the heart.
  15. It is about love, challenges that human beings have to face.
  16. We pay homage to telenovelas, which are so incredibly crucial in the Latin-American Community.
  17. They love the telenovelas, and they love the twists and turns.the heart with him.
  18. I love the bromance and the fact that Jennie went there. Because it is so funny. What I love the most about Rogelio de la Vega is that he is a well-balanced, well-rounded character. So he can make you laugh, but you can also connect via the heart with him.
  19. And I think that the finale will have happy endings. Of course, a happy ending on Jane the Virgin might not be a typical happy ending. The journey has been incredible. The journey has been beyond belief. I think it is gonna be one of those shows that it will never go away. It is always gonna be there for you to make you feel good, and to warm your heart…and to make you laugh, and to help you remember the essential things in life.

Ivonne Coll (Alba Gloriana Villanueva)

  1. I thought something in Spanish and English, what the hell? And when I began to look at it, and then when I started to read it, then I got it.
  2. On TV, you rarely see three female Latinas being in charge of their lives.
  3. That is what we were; a dramedy with some magical realism moments.
  4. This is what my mother taught me. You do not need to be married to be accomplished and to be happy.
  5. These are like significant, incredible–we have had Juanes and David Bisbal.Alba
  6. So, Alba, she has done exceptionally well considering that she was widowed and that she had to be the only support of her household. One of my favorite moments for my character is after we have sex. But I love the fact that you are so prude and so righteous, and finally, she gets married, and then we have that scene where they both pop out of bed. That is one of my favorite moments for Alba. At least she got some, you know. When she got here to the country, I do not think she even imagined that it would get to be to this point.
  7. I realized the political importance that it had in terms of the situation that we are facing in the United States right now. I never understood what it meant, but now I know what it means, you know, for all the immigrants that work so hard.
  8. What happens is this: in Spanish, the telenovela style of acting is different from what we are doing. But in terms of all things that happen, it is a telenovela.
  9. We are taught as females to be competitive with each other, to not trust. In this family, we trust.
  10. The front porch is like a symbol for many people…doing that kind of ritual. We call it the “porch of tears.” It is coming to terms with things in life.
  11. It has been an emotional journey. To be somebody’s mom and grandmother…

Brett Dier (Michael Cordero Jr.)

  1. I was excited, and I thought it was a great idea. It was very original. I had never seen anything like it.
  2. I personally like Jane and Michael. I just think he is just a genuine, great guy. And Rafael, he is also a great candidate for Jane. Plus, he is just so shredded. I mean, Justin is in great shape.
  3. Everything kind of added up. The editing, the music, the colorful vibe. It all just kind of makes your eyes go, like, whoa.
  4. I love those. Those were my favorite things to do. Because of the fantasy scenes, you can be larger than life.
  5. It takes you on a whole ride. You can never really guess what is going to happen.Michael
  6. I got very emotional on my last day when I was gonna die. I cried. I felt like I was losing a friend.
  7. Anything can happen. I come back from the dead, I’ve got amnesia. You can pretty much throw anything at this show, and it will work because the world accepts it. Michael has no idea who anyone was, so that would be really difficult, having everyone go, “How are you?” and “Oh, my God,” and him being like: “I do not know you.” Rogelio was trying to crack me up while we were doing it in the scene.
  8. I just want everyone to be happy. It has been a stressful five years for the characters. Poor things.
  9. Five years went by real quick. It has been a fantastic experience.

Justin Baldoni (Rafael Solano)

  1. I have heard people say the love triangle in Jane the Virgin is one of the best ever on television, and, biasedly, I would have to agree.
  2. I have empathy for the Michael shippers. I would absolutely want a man to treat my daughter the way Jane was treated by Michael.
  3. This magical world where you do not know who you want her to end up with.
  4. The show came as a time when the world really needed it. A show that, from top to bottom, is about representation.
  5. Our show has a really whimsical, magical, unique style that was refreshing for television.
  6. When you watch the show, you just get transported into this world you want to be part of. And it is funny.Rafael
  7. That is who she has been. But it comes from love. (Petra)
  8. What is interesting about our show and the way that I viewed family is that family does not always mean blood. Family is the people you choose to keep. That is one of the themes of our show is you get to see family looks a lot of different things.
  9. The show deals with a lot of exciting aspects of what it means to be a hero. It takes the everyday person, and it turns her into a hero. (Jane)
  10. I just believe everybody who’s been on our screen has had a chance to play the hero. Jennie wrote Rafael as an underdog, almost. Because he had everything going against him, in terms of becoming the–The hero, the guy that the audience would really want Jane to be with. And through this process of him falling in love, he made a pretty significant transformation. Becoming a father, learning what selflessness was like, meeting the Villianuevas, and seeing this tight-knit family. All the different things that Rafael was exposed to, he started to change.
  11. It puts forward the idea that positive choice and good people can win. It is about how we treat each other at the end of the day.
  12. It is a testament to the love that these two have that they were willing to overcome all of these obstacles.
  13. I think what the fans can expect is a very Jane the Virgin ending. Little did I know what was coming. And it will forever be one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had. It really was like winning the lottery.

Anthony Mendez (Latin Lover Narrator)

  1. So I see myself as a friend to the audience. Like your couch-potato buddy, sitting there and excited to get started. At the beginning of every episode, he gets hyped up, and he’s “Welcome back, my friends.”
  2. There is always a twist. You want to see what the twist is. You do not want to know. It is like magic, right?
  3. There are times in the vocal booth, and I literally put my hand on my heart before delivering certain lines.Narrator
  4. When Michael died, it was a moment where I shed real tears.
  5. I get to see it as a fan. And I am just so proud of everybody.

Yael Grobglas (Petra Solano)

  1. The narrator is a character on the show. He is amazing. I have wanted to break the fourth wall, and when he is talking, I will look at the camera like…
  2. I do not think of these characters necessarily as strong characters. I just think of them, as…as women. They are unbelievably accomplished, all in their own ways, women.
  3. It shows women breaking down, being emotional, being strong, being bosses, being mothers. None of this means they are more or less strong. It is just…real. There are many things with Petra I might not do. I might not make the same choices. I always respected her (Jane). Petra’s experience in becoming a mother, from the–how she got pregnant. I still get turkey basters as gifts. She has, in her own way, fought for herself and her family and the people she cares about from the beginning.
  4. Our minds were all blown when Britney showed up. That was, Like: “Oh!” I do not think I was even working that day. I came to see Britney.
  5. People enjoy that. We like our emotions to have toyed with a bit.Petra
  6. The male characters are more interesting because of the women around them as well. And I think that is true in life.
  7. The heart of the show is relationships between women. I really feel like that is where the heart pulses.
  8. Oh, okay. I have a twin sister showing up. Dope. She is a voracious eater. She yelps and scratches, she’s got issues with human contact. I am like, “I know this person. This is my cat.” I was very sad when she died twice. What I love is that it is a love letter to telenovelas. It is bringing out the best parts of them, the fantastic, larger-than-life storylines.
  9. I cannot tell you enough how powerful it is on a show that means so much to so many people. Not just us, the people behind, but our fans. The immense amount of love and beautiful messages that I am getting personal, with mostly women who are looking at the Petra and JR relationship. To be part of something that has that kind of a powerful impact on people’s lives is–I have no words to even describe it. I am unbelievably grateful. It’s made the most significant impact on my life.
  10. Jane definitely worked her way against all the odds into Petra’s heart. I think their relationship was handled beautifully. It is not black and white. It is just–there are moments. Petra’s still guarded. What I loved about the moment Jane and Petra said I love you is Jane comes around and then hugs Petra…And–I do not know why–I had to give her a little kiss on the head before running away. It feels natural at this point for Petra to go crawling to Jane when she feels broken. Like, who else? Now they technically are actually a family, because they have the same baby daddy.
  11. I cannot imagine it ending. I cannot believe all these characters just ceasing to exist. It was just something I never thought would happen to me. And it completely changed my life.

Thank you for these Wonderful 5 Seasons!

The Jane the Virgin cast have finally said their goodbyes. Sadly, the show has ended, but they will always be in our hearts.

As they were doing some flashbacks, I had forgotten about some things that had happened in the show. It brought back memories and old feelings. The show has been incredible over the years.

My favorite moment in the show was when Mateo was born. Jane brought a life into the world, knowing it would change her life forever.

Good luck to the cast and hope there will be opportunities for the cast members to work together again, on or off-screen.

We will love you and miss you!

Please leave any comments or questions you may have, and I will get back to you shortly.

Let me know what your favorite moment(s) were in the show. If there was a favorite episode or season that you love.

One thought on “The Final Goodbyes

  1. I have fallen in love with Jane the Virgin. I have so many favorite moments throughout the five seasons. The first season was when Jane and Rafael found out that he was the father and got together to make things work before Mateo was born. It did not work out with the two of them being together in the beginning. Season two was when Jane and Michael got married, and she had sex for the first time. In season three, Michael dies, and Jane has to cope with knowing her husband is gone. Season four is when Jane and Rafael get together as a couple. Finally, in season five is when Jane and Rafael get married and have a long, happy life together forever.
